Shoulder pain

Treatment for shoulder pain after an auto accident

Shoulder pain is one of the most common injuries due to auto accidents. The shoulder has multiple regions that may become damaged after trauma. At the Chiropractic and Rehabilitation of South Florida a thorough examination including orthopedic and neurologic testing are performed. X-ray or MRI studies may be prescribed, if necessary, to help to determine your exact diagnosis and individualized treatment plan.

Rotator cuff injury

In the past several years, the terms “impingement syndrome”treatment for shoulder pain after accident injury -Chiropractic and Rehabilitation of South Florida located in Hollywood, Miami, Miami Gardens, Miami Lakes, Margate, Kendall, Plantation, Pompano Beach, Delray Beach, Lake Worth, West Palm Beach and “rotator cuff syndrome” have become popular buzz words in sports medicine, replacing the previous terms of bursitis, tendinitis, supraspinatus syndrome, etc. All of these terms describe essentially the same phenomena: overuse and irritation of the rotator cuff. Although other, more serious causes exist, rotator cuff irritation is the most common cause of shoulder pain seen in athletes and non-athletes alike. This can be due to factors including poor posture, poor work ergonomic, improper lifting, and improper warm-up or stretching.

Referred pain to the shoulder

Many people complain of shoulder pain radiating to the side of the arm, where the deltoid muscle inserts onto the humerus bone. This sometimes occurs due to referred pain from the cervical spine. Disc injuries such as herniations and protrusions may cause nerve impingement causing radiating pain to travel to the shoulder region. An MRI of the cervical spine may properly diagnose these disc injuries. Pain and “snapping” when raising the arm overhead are also common complaints from shoulder injuries.

Manipulation (adjustment) of the spinal and extremity joints is very effective in restoring normal function to the joints. Adjustments may also affect the surrounding muscles and nerves. This usually leads to a decrease in pain and faster recovery. Part of your treatment may also include some of the following: therapeutic exercises, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, and ice or heat therapy. Massage therapy & myofascial release techniques may also be used in conjunction with these other therapies in order to get the best results. An appropriate referral may occur in the event that your condition requires medical attention.
